The Bonbonniera:
A bonbonniera is a beautiful keepsake that is given to guests at special celebrations as a thank-you gift or a token of remembrance. The bonbonniera is handed out at weddings, engagement parties, christenings, anniversary parties, graduations, first communions, confirmations or other special occasions.
Who Gets the Bonbonniera?
Bonbonnieras are traditionally given as one per couple (usually to the ladies). If you have single people at your event, then a bonbonniera is given to each single person as well, whether male or female. If your single friends or family members bring a date, the date gets a bonbonniera ONLY if they give their own gift to the bride and groom, otherwise, the bonbonniera goes to the person giving the bride and groom a gift.
The Tradition of Jordan Almonds:
Almonds have been given at weddings to wish the couple health, wealth, happiness, longevity and fertility for over a thousand years. During the 13th century, almonds were covered with a layer of sugar and became known as "confetti". Traditionally, each bonbonniera has 5 confetti almonds, which are wrapped in tulle, attached to it.
The following colour guide will assist you with when to use a specific colour of confetti almond:
White - A wedding
Pink - A girl's special occasion
Blue - A boy's special occasion
Green - An engagement
Yellow - A welcoming of friends
Orange - A new beginning
Red - A graduation
Silver- A 25th wedding anniversary
Gold - A 50th wedding anniversary
